Financial Assistance schemes for students
Ministry of Education provides financial assistance schemes and scholarships to students in Singapore. These financial assistance schemes help students to pursue their education.
Ministry of Education Financial Assistance Schemes (MOE FAS) for General Education Schools
The MOE provides financial aid to Singaporean students who study in government schools, government-aided schools and Independent Schools. To gain financial help, students need to obtain the application form from their schools and submit the same together with the relevant documents to their schools on time. The schools will inform them of the result of their application.
MOE FAS for Government and Government-Aided Schools
Financial assistance is being catered to students if the family’s gross household income does not surpass $2,500 per month; or the family’s per capita income does not surpass $625 per month. The types of aid granted to students in government or government-aided junior colleges and centralized institute is that Students get 100% subsidy of school fee, 100% subsidy of Standard Miscellaneous Fees, Bursary of $750, and 75% subsidy of national exam fees and 100% subsidy for students under the Ministry of Social and Family Development’s (MSF) Public Assistance Scheme.
MOE Independent Schools Bursary (ISB)
The MOE provides assistance to junior college-level students in Independent Schools if the meet any of the below mentioned criteria:
- If the monthly gross household income doesn’t surpass $2500 or per capita income not exceeding $625, then in that case, financial assistance is provided to students. This assistance includes 100% subsidy of fees, $750 bursary and 75% subsidy of national examination fee.
- If the monthly gross household income is between $2,501 - $4,000 or per capita income is between $626 - $1,000, then students get 90% subsidy of fees.
- If the monthly gross household income is between $4,001 - $5,000 or per capita income is between $1,001 - $1,250, then students get 70% subsidy of fees.
- If the monthly gross household income is between $5,001 - $6,000 or per capita income is between $1,251 - $1,500, then students get 50% subsidy of fees.
- If the monthly gross household income is between $6,001 - $7,200 or per capita income is between $1,501 to $1,800, then students get 33% subsidy of fees.
Financial Assistance Schemes for Post-Secondary Education
The government and post-secondary institutions offer assistance for students to pursue their higher education at the publicly-funded institutions. Following are the financial assistance schemes for post-secondary education:
Edusave Merit Bursary
This scheme is offered to full-time students who are Singapore Citizens at JC/ CI and ITE and within the top 25% in school and also whose monthly household income is below $5,000 or have per capita income of $1,250.
Quantum per year for ITE Students: $500
CDC/ CCC Bursary
This scheme is offered to Singapore Citizens whose Monthly household per capita income ≤ $570 or above $570 and up to $950.
- Amount per year for ITE Students: For those whose monthly household per capita income is less than equal to $570, they are given $1200 and for those whose monthly household per capita income is above $570 and up to $950 are given $900.
- Quantum per year for diploma Students: $2000
- Quantum per year for autonomous undergraduate students: $3,600
MOE Bursary
This scheme is offered to Singapore Citizens whose Monthly household per capita income ≤ $1,400 or to those Monthly household per capita income is above $1,400 and up to $1,900
- Amount per year for ITE Students: For those whose monthly household per capita income is less than equal to $14000, they are given $450 and for those whose monthly household per capita income is above $14000 and up to $1900 are given $300.
- Amount per year for diploma Students: $1500 and $750 respectively
- Amount per year for autonomous undergraduate students: $2600 and $1300 respectively
Tuition Fee Loan Scheme
This scheme is applicable for Full-time diploma students enrolled at polytechnics, Full-time undergraduates at the autonomous universities, or Full-time Singapore Citizen or Permanent Resident undergraduates at SIT.
- Quantum per year for diploma Students: Upto 75% of tuition fee
- Quantum per year for autonomous undergraduate students: Upto 90% of tuition fee
Study Loan Scheme
This scheme is available to Full-time diploma students at polytechnics who are Singapore Citizens or Permanent Residents, or Full-time undergraduates, or those whose monthly household per capita income ≤ $2,400.
- Quantum per year for diploma Students: Up to 25% of tuition fee plus living allowance of $2,000 per annum
- Quantum per year for autonomous undergraduate students: Up to 10% of tuition fee plus living allowance loan of $3,600 per annum.
