Direct Polytechnic Admission Exercise for Students
DPA: An Introduction
The Direct Polytechnic Admission (DPA) Exercise is an admission exercise that assists students to sustain a seat in a polytechnic course prior to their GCE O-Level examinations.
Participating Polytechnics are Nanyang Polytechnic, Ngee Ann Polytechnic, Republic Polytechnic, Singapore Polytechnic and Temasek Polytechnic
Benefits of Applying Through the DPA
If you apply through DPA, you will be able to guarantee a spot in the polytechnics prior to your GCE O-Level Exams. As well, you will be able to attend an 8-week Polytechnic Preparatory Program at the polytechnics, before the commencement of the formal polytechnic academic year.
The DPA is available to Singapore Citizens and Permanent Residents who have registered to sit for the GCE 'O'-Level examinations in the year of the DPA admission exercise and to International Students enrolled in government, government-aided and Independent Schools during the year of the application, and who have registered to sit for the GCE 'O'-Level examinations in the year of the DPA admission exercise.
The admission criteria vary by the Polytechnics. You can visit their respective websites to know more about the selection/admission criteria. Broadly speaking, all polytechnics will take into account your potential, aptitude and interests in the specific courses that you are applying for. If you have been made a conditional offer via the DPA, you will still need to satisfy the following admission criteria in order to confirm a spot in the polytechnic course: get a net ELR2B2 score of not more than 26 points for the GCE O-Level examinations; and meet the Minimum Entry Requirements (MER) for their respective polytechnic courses.
** ELR2B2 refers to English Language- 2 relevant subjects for the polytechnic course applied for and 2 other best subjects which could be elective subjects.
You can apply online for DPA at http://www.polytechnic.edu.sg/dpa.
Polytechnics Shortlist and interview selected DPA applicants.
The successful applicants will receive the offer which can be viewed and accepted via the online application system. A student who accepts his DPA Offer during this stage is assured a spot in the polytechnic course, as long as he is able to fulfil the admission criteria stated.
If a student would like to withdraw from the DPA Exercise, he/she must submit his withdrawal by the deadline.
The Polytechnic Preparatory Programme fee is affordable. Check with the respective polytechnics for information on the course fees.
