Mother Tongue Language Entrance Proficiency Test (MTL EPT)
The Mother Tongue Language Entrance Proficiency Test (MTL EPT) is administered by Regional Language Center, Singapore. The Chinese Language Entrance Proficiency (CL EPT) Test is designed for applicants who wish to teach Chinese Language in Singapore. The Malay Language Entrance Proficiency (ML EPT) Test is designed for applicants who wish to teach Malay Language, and the Tamil Language Entrance Proficiency (TL EPT) Test is designed for applicants who like to teach Tamil Language in Singapore. Only candidates shortlisted for employment by the Ministry of Education will be allowed to register for the test. The Ministry will assist these candidates in the registration process.
Structure of CL EPT, ML EPT and TL EPT
The The Mother Tongue Language Entrance Proficiency Test (MTL EPT) consists of two parts:
Part 1 involves a test of oral proficiency. Candidates are required to read aloud a passage and deliver a short speech without notes on a given topic(s). They will be given a few minutes to preview the reading passage and prepare for the speech.
Part 2 involves a test of written proficiency. Candidates are tested on their knowledge of grammar, vocabulary usage and stylistic features of the language and reading comprehension. They are also required to write a short composition.
Timing of (Chinese/Malay/Tamil) EPT
The test commences approximately at 9.00am (for Chinese, Malay and Tamil languages).
The above timing may be subjected to changes. Candidates should refer to their admission notice for the actual reporting time.
Mother Tongue Language Entrance Proficiency Test (MTL EPT) Registration
The registration process for Mother Tongue Language Entrance Proficiency Test (MTL EPT) takes place in December. You are required to complete all the fields in the e-Registration form (where applicable). A Letter of Notification regarding the test date, time and venue will be emailed to candidates about 2 working days prior to the test.
