Accreditation Agencies for Higher Education
Higher Education in Singapore is recognized worldwide for the purpose of further studies or to take up a job. Both academia and industry recognizes certificates awarded by Universities and Higher Education Institutes (HEIs) in Singapore. There are many accreditation agencies under Ministry of Education to check and maintain the quality of higher education offered from different universities, departments, colleges and HEIs. These accreditation bodies’ works to ensure that the education imparted to the students meet the set standards, thereby adding value to the degree obtained.
To accredit a course or an educational institution, the Singapore government has formed various accreditation agencies which are mostly administered by the Ministry of education (MoE) or Standards, Productivity and Innovation Board (SPRING) Singapore.
Higher Education Accreditation bodies are as follows:
Higher Education Division
The Higher Education Division (HED), comes under the MoE, supervises and manages the delivery of quality tertiary and technical education in Singapore as well as registration of private schools. The HED oversees nine statutory boards — five Polytechnics, the Institute of Technical Education (ITE), the Science Centre Singapore (SCS), the Institute of Southeast Asian Studies (ISEAS) and the Council for Private Education. HED also oversees the development of four autonomous universities, i.e. the National University of Singapore, the Nanyang Technological University, the Singapore Management University and the Singapore University of Technology and Design. It also manages the provision of publicly-subsidized places in the following institutions: SIM University, Singapore Institute of Technology, LASALLE College of the Arts and Nanyang Academy of Fine Arts.
