Admission Procedure for Bachelor's degree in Singapore

A Bachelor's degree leads to an entry-level job in a particular discipline and involve a minimum of three years of full-time study depending on the course of study. An additional year of study following a three-year degree program is referred to as Bachelor’s Honours degree.

Students can undertake studies, both in general areas, i.e., Bachelor of Arts (BA) or Bachelor of Science (BS), or more programs with a more specific focus within those fields such as a Bachelor of Science.  Students undertaking programs of study in general fields will have to select an area they will specialize in within that field and this area is called a ‘major’. They need to complete a quota of subjects within it in order to be awarded the title. Almost all universities in Singapore offer undergraduate courses on full-time basis in various fields. Major undergraduate programs are as follows:

  • Architecture, Building and Planning

Entrance Requirements

To gain entry into a Singaporean undergraduate course you will need to complete a secondary school program or the overseas equivalent. Some undergraduate courses may also have specific pre-requisites.

Duration

The duration of Undergraduate degree program is generally three or four years' of full-time study.

Download and Fill the Application Form

A student must choose the institution or university and download their application form. Fill out the form and sent it to the institute along with testimonials of earlier education completed.

Supporting Documentation 

You will need to prepare supporting documentation to send with your application. The documents vary depending on the course of study, institute and qualification you're studying for. The major documents required are: Academic Records that this includes scores, GPA and official certificates and transcripts,  and Letters of Recommendation.

Certificate Accepted

GCSE- General Certificate of Secondary Education
GCSE are available in a wide range of subjects. Their results are graded from A to G and can be used for entrance into higher degree studies. 

Receiving your Acceptance Letter

If the application is successful, you will receive an ‘Acceptance Letter. During enrollment, you must carry copies of the acceptance letter, study/work permit and any other details that are mandatory for admission. 

Education Cost

The cost of study in Singapore varies according to the institute, course and duration of the course. Students looking to take up a Bachelors course can refer to each university’s official website for any enquiries regarding the latest fee structure. 

Financial Aid

The Ministry of Education and some Universities provides financial assistance. The Singapore Ministry of Education provides tuition grants to Singaporean and International students who are admitted to the local universities and polytechnics. Tuition grants cover most of the costs of the tuition fees. In addition to these, there are assistance schemes from either the government or welfare organizations to help students cope with finances during their studies.

For International Students

The international applicants should complete pre-university education with the passing certificate of GCE “O” level examination from Singapore or an equivalent qualification of minimum 12 years of schooling. Also, they should demonstrate their English Language Proficiency levels by submitting the scores of either TOEFL/IELTS.

English Language Proficiency

  • IELTS: IELTS or International English Language Test is frequently administered by the British Council. Most universities require international students to take this test. For undergraduate course: Score of 6.5 is required.
  • TOEFL: TOEFL or Test of English as a Foreign Language is an alternative to IELTS. For undergraduate course: Score of 80 is required for admission.
Apart from the language proficiency tests, international students must apply for student visa or pass after receiving a letter of acceptance from the institution. 

Visa Application

All international students are required to get Student Authorization i.e. Student Visa before leaving for Singapore for studies.  In order to get a student visa, you need to submit a completed application form. You should make your application for a Student’s Pass to the Immigration and Checkpoints Authority ICA. You can do this online using the Student's Pass Online Application & Registration (SOLAR) system. A Student's Pass is valid for the entire duration of your course. There are certain documents that you may need to submit along with your student visa application.

  • Completed student visa application form
  • Acceptance letter from the Singapore University 
  • Birth Certificate
  • Certified copies of highest educational certificates and results
  • TOEFL/IELTS scores
  • A Valid passport along with two passport sized photographs.
  • Bank Draft for visa processing fees
  • Proof of funds
  • Receipt of the insurance premium 
  • Medical Reports 
The international students should make sure that their visa application reaches the ICA at least 2 months before the date of commencement of the course.
